  1. Mary,
Thrilled to read about your project and website in the Sunday Times. It interests me greatly and I hope to touch base with you at some stage about it. I stay in Portlaoise during the ‘working week’ so I am not as available as I might be. In addition I hike in the Slieve Blooms on a regular basis, which is superb as a cardiovascular workout, therapeutic relaxation, scenery, flora and fauna, – lots of deer!
I am very keen to hike in the Blackstairs, but so far my schedule and that of the Blackstairs Ramblers are out of sync. I would like to compare and contrast how the different geolological origins affects the natural evironment and habitats.
It has been forever since I studied botany, but the fascination I felt years ago is slowly, very slowly, returning, so I will certainly treat myself to a refresher course, – and my salads could do with a nutritional overhaul too.
    Congratulatons and best wishes
    Biddy Dalton (Ballinvalley)

    • Hi Biddy,
Great to hear from you!.Glad to know you are so fit! Our walks like the Slow Food Movement are slow walks, looking at what is around us; watching what is flying overhead; listening to birdsong and keping an eye out for otters and deer; observing the flora, fauna and fungi, rounded off with a good old fashioned Rectory Afternoon Tea!. If the Mondays, Wednesays or Saturdays don’t fit in with your schedule, happy to go out with on a Sunday sometime. Keep in touch for those slow ambles in the green lanes, bogs and river areas that you and I know so well. Mary

  2. Thanks for a lovely walk on Monday. It was great to see Kingfishers flashing across the River and a hatch of baby blue tits. Looking forward to a mountain lane next time I think! Delicious scones and jam too.
